Ipswich will host the first round of the Women's Australian Hockey League from 7th to 9th May 2010. Teams from Western Australia (WA), Northern Territory (NT), South Australia (SA) and Queensland (QLD) will be playing at the following times: Friday 7 May 2010
Saturday 8 May
Sunday 9 May
All games will be held it the Ipswich Hockey Complex at 65 Briggs Road, Raceview. Official Opening of the new artificial surfaces by Barry Dancer On Saturday 8 May, following the Queensland v Northern Territory game, Ipswich Hockey's new artificial fields will be officially opened by Barry Dancer. Barry is well known to the Ipswich hockey community having played all of his club hockey in Ipswich before going on to represent Australia in 48 international matches between 1973 and 1979. He won a silver medalist from the 1976 Olympics in Montréal, and was a bronze medalist from the Hockey World Cup in Buenos Aires, 1978. Following his active career he became a hockey coach and was appointed Head Coach of The Kookaburras and the Australian Institute of Sport Men's Hockey Unit in 2001. Barry’s time as coach of the Kookaburras was highlighted with their winning the golden medal at the 2004 Olympics at Athens
