The Ipswich Hockey Association and affiliated Clubs are seeking senior and junior players, men's and ladies to play hockey in Ipswich. Ipswich Hockey comprises ten affiliated clubs that provide playing, recreation and social opportunities for youth and adults of Ipswich and the surrounding region. Playing opportunities commence from about 6 years of age with Minkey (mini hockey played on a field one quarter the normal size) and modified hockey (played on a field half the normal size). Hockey is a non-contact sport played in about 178 countries throughout the world. The Australian Men's team (the Kookaburras) are the current Olympic champions having won their first ever Olympic Gold medal in Athens in 2004. The Australian Women's team (the Hockeyroos) won Gold at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000. The Kookaburras and Hockeyroos both won Gold at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in March 2006. Hockey is played in many Ipswich and region primary and secondary schools with a Friday afternoon Primary Schools competition conducted at the Ipswich Hockey Association Grounds at Briggs Road, Raceview.
